Feedstock Specification

The refinery is designed to process medium to heavy crude oil within an API gravity range of 23.7° to 34°, with sulfur content ranging from 2.0% to 3.63%.

The original design focused on maximizing diesel production, with a net diesel output of approximately 2,200–2,500 BPD, while producing naphtha, gas, and fuel oil as secondary products.

Engineering Background

The engineering, procurement, and operational works were carried out by Snamprogetti (Saipem Group) for the Arabian American Oil Company (Saudi Aramco).

The refinery was developed as a joint project between the Iraqi State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) and Saudi Aramco, and was installed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The project was suspended after approximately three months of operation due to the geopolitical events following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.

Most of the major process equipment is of American manufacture.

Current Status

The refinery is currently located in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), United Arab Emirates. All equipment has been professionally dismantled and is available for inspection at any time.

Available Supply Options

We can offer the refinery under one of the following three commercial options:

Option 1 – As Is, Where Is (EXW JAFZA)

The buyer purchases the refinery in its current condition and location in Jebel Ali Free Zone. The buyer is responsible for dismantling (if required), loading, transportation, installation, commissioning, and all associated costs.

Option 2 – Refurbished and Ready for Shipment

We undertake the complete refurbishment, maintenance, inspection, and preparation of the refinery in the UAE. After completion, the refinery is delivered to the buyer ready for shipment, while transportation, installation, and commissioning remain the buyer’s responsibility.

Option 3 – Complete Turnkey Solution (EPC Basis)

We provide a complete turnkey project, including refurbishment, transportation, installation, commissioning, performance testing, production start-up, operator training, and performance guarantee. The refinery is delivered fully operational and ready for commercial production in the buyer’s country.
