Storage Tanks (Capacity Planning)
To construct storage tanks for various petroleum products including naphtha, gasoline, diesel fuel, and bitumen, total of 19 cylindrical storage tanks with a floating roof with a capacity of 51,979 (~52,000) cubic meters (CBM) design have been designed and planned. The construction material of choice is steel with density of 7800 kg/m3.
These tanks are designed to store and blend different petroleum products. Tanks 101-105 have been designed and constructed exclusively for the purpose of storing bitumen. Our comprehensive marketing plan includes three distinct grades of bitumen: 40/50, 60/70, and 85/100.
Blending Operation (Technology and Equipment)
Product blending is a critical process in the preparation of refinery products to meet market demand. Its main purpose is to ensure that the products meet all necessary specifications and environmental regulations. The goal of product blending operation is to allocate blend components in a way that satisfies product demand and specifications, while minimizing costs and maximizing overall profit. There are three methods commonly used for blending:
• - a) Blending with an Agitator and Mixer from the wall;
• - b) Blending with a Jet Mixer from the wall;
• - c) Blending with Line Mixing;
Three tanks are designated as blending tanks and will have appropriate pipes installed for mixing purposes. Once each of the feed tanks is emptied, it becomes the product tank, resulting in all feed tanks being converted to product tanks through blending. Initially, the feeds are blended using Line Mixing. Then, in order to complete the blending process, the feeds are transferred to storage tanks where Jet Mixing takes place. For Jet Mixing, two pumps are utilized.

Integrated blending operations are used to produce final petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil.

Gasoline Blending
Gasoline is a mixture that consists of various process streams, including butane, light and heavy naphtha, Reformate, Isomerate, and oxygenate components like MTBE. It is important to meet strict standards and specific specifications to ensure the quality of gasoline. To achieve this, it is crucial to continuously control the blending operation. This allows for the production of gasoline that meets the required specifications while minimizing costs. Important properties of gasoline to consider include specific gravity (Sp.Gr), Research Octane Number (RON), Motor Octane Number (MON), Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP), and others. Additionally, it is essential to consider limitations on the aromatic and benzene content in gasoline.
Diesel (Gasoil) Blending
Petroleum-derived diesel, also known as Petro diesel, is produced by combining the straight-run product (150 °C to 350 °C) with specific amounts of different petroleum distillates. It consists primarily of saturated hydrocarbons, including paraffin (such as normal, iso, and cycloparaffins), as well as aromatic hydrocarbons like naphthalene and alkylbenzenes. Standardized physical properties are typically achieved by blending various diesel distillates, heavy cuts, and sometimes kerosene. To maximize the benefits of the diesel blend, it is important to optimize the use of cost-effective diesel components while minimizing the quantities of diesel oil and kerosene used. The main properties of diesel include specific gravity (Sp.Gr), flash point (FP), pour point, initial boiling point (IBP), and final boiling point (FBP), among others.
Fuel Oil Blending
Heavy fuel oils and marine bunker oils are blends of various heavy refinery products, including distillation residues, visbreaking residues, and thermally cracked residues. In many cases, these blends are also diluted with CDU distillates like kerosene to adjust their viscosity. There is a wide range of fuel oils and bunker oils available on the market, each distinguished by its viscosity. These materials have high viscosity and poor flow properties, and their physico-chemical properties often do not meet the required specifications. To transform them into usable fuel oils or bunker oils, they need to be blended with lighter, yet still low- cost petroleum products such as diesel oils and kerosene. The aim of this blending process is to modify the key specification properties of the fuel oil and bunker fuel oils to meet the desired requirements. The main properties of fuel oil are its specific gravity (Sp.Gr) and kinematic viscosity at 50 °C. Generally, there are three types of fuel oil: fuel oil 180, fuel oil 280, and fuel oil 380. These types have kinematic viscosities of 180 cSt, 280 cSt, and 380 cSt respectively at 50 °C.

Blending components to achieve critical specifications in the most cost-effective way is a process that can be easily managed with the help of a computer. Due to the numerous variables involved, it is likely that there will be multiple solutions that offer similar overall cost or profit. Optimization programs allow the computer to produce the best possible blend, minimizing cost and maximizing profit. Simulation software, such as LP (Linear Programming) modeling is frequently used to predict the ratio components that provide the lowest cost blend, still conforming its required specification.
